Ramblin About Hamilton Part 2 Show Notes

Happy flippin’ Monday lovely humans!!

In this week’s episode, I decided to dive deeper into the musical Hamilton by Lin-Manuel Miranda and express my own thoughts about the staging, acting, and overall story-telling of the show.

To start, I discuss the popular conspiracy theory of Eliza’s gasp at the end of the show. You know, it’s so popular that I heard it being talked about on the radio while I was on vacation. The radio host honestly didn’t know what she was really talking about. I try not to judge those who don’t know anything about theatre, but once you call a musical a “play” you will lose me every time. Yes, I am one of those people who will correct you, just because they are two different things. Period.

I’m a big fan of conspiracy theories, so obviously I’m going to side with the theory of Eliza gasping over the audience, however, I still love that it is up for interpretation!

This episode also touches on the fact that Lin-Manuel spent a good amount of time continuously writing more and more songs even after the release of Hamilton. I guess my question is, did he write these Hamildrops and the mixtape after the release, or were they just pieces that he wrote while he was creating Hamilton and they just wouldn’t fit? These are the types of questions that I need answered, but oh well.

To finish off these show notes, I took to the Internet and asked if anyone had questions regarding the release and what they thought. To my surprise, there were many things that even I missed and had never thought of! I had some lovely conversations with people that I haven’t heard from in a long time, and it was interesting to listen to what others thought. I also throw in some questions that I had, especially with characterization and the doubling of roles with the actors. I’m a nerd for that kind of thing.

Anyways, this week is special to me because it’s the first show that I really got to talk about by myself. This podcast has become a platform where I can voice my own thoughts and feel good about it. I often struggle with this in class, so it’s nice to finally be learning how to talk about art. That’s my soapbox for the day.

Happy Monday!
